The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has completed its preparations in view of the possible rains in Karachi. On Monday, PDMA Director General Salman Shah visited various areas of the city to inspect the installed dewatering pumping stations. He reviewed the performance of the pumps installed at Drigh Road and Shahrah-e-Faisal and expressed satisfaction. The DG PDMA also visited Qayyumabad Chowrangi and conducted a detailed assessment of the drainage situation.
During the visit, Salman Shah instructed the on-site staff to take immediate action. The team promptly responded, and within a short time, the water was drained from the road, clearing it completely. Once the road was cleared, traffic flow was restored.
DG PDMA Salman Shah stated on the occasion that the accumulation of rainwater had disrupted traffic flow, but thanks to PDMA’s timely efforts, the situation is now under control and citizens are being provided relief. He further added that, following special instructions from the Minister for Rehabilitation, Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman, the staff remains on alert across the city, and all emergency measures, including drainage, are being ensured. DG Salman Shah stated that he himself is going out on the roads to assess the situation so that the public can be relieved of difficulties. According to the DG PDMA, a total of 13 pumps have been installed across Karachi, while 3 additional pumps have been kept ready for deployment at required locations in case of emergency.
He further mentioned that Director of Operations, Shayan Shah, visited Qayyumabad Chowrangi and the Submarine Underpass to review the drainage arrangements. Salman Shah said that regular inspections of the pumping stations are being conducted and the staff is fully prepared to handle any emergency situation. He advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during the rain, as intermittent rainfall is expected to continue. The DG PDMA added that practical measures are being taken to provide relief to the public during the rains so that citizens do not face difficulties.
