TEXAS: ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office of Pakistan on Friday reached out to the United States Department of State over alleged misbehavior with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
US State Department spokesperson confirmed that the Pakistani FO registered its reservations over the alleged mistreatment with Pakistani scientist Aafia Siddiqui, imprisoned in Texas’ Federal Medical Center, Carswell.
The state department’s spokesperson said that the treatment with the criminals in the US was in accordance to international laws as well as in line with humanity.
He added, that the US officials as well as the prison keepers’ conduct with the imprisoned was in accordance to the US constitution.
The spokesperson, had earlier affirmed that the matter of the alleged mistreatment with Siddiqui had been brought to the attention of concerned authorities and a report had been summoned on the consequent probe.
On June 17, Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan had summed a report from the Pakistan Embassy in Washington over Aafia Siddiqui, after her sister Fouzia Siddiqui had filed a petition.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar conducted the hearing, during which Dr Fouzia informed the court that Pakistani consul-general in US had earlier visited her sister, after rumors of the imprisoned scientist’s death surfaced.
Siddiqui was indicted by the New York federal district court in September 2008 for murder and assault during an interview with the US authorities in Ghazni, Afghanistan.
The Pakistani scientist was sentenced to 86 years in prison.
