ISLAMABAD: Following the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issuing an advisory to the Power Division on resuming gas applies to K-Electric (KE), the three organisations will hold an emergency meeting today (Friday) to discuss the blackouts that have gripped Karachi in the past few days.
The advisory to the Power Division comes in the wake of a five-member NEPRA team visiting KE to assess power outages due to the Sui Southern Gas Company limiting gas supplies to KE.
NEPRA officials believe that if KE received all the gas it requires, it could generate 2900 megawatts of electricity; enough to meet Karachi’s demand.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah has claimed that load-shedding in Karachi is a political gambit meant to undermine provincial autonomy.
Addressing journalists alongside Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman in Karachi, CM Sindh advocated holding a sit-in outside the Prime Minister (PM) house in Islamabad to protest the present power crisis in Karachi.
“”If a sit-in is to be held then all political parties should come together and let’s arrange it outside the PM House”, the CM said, further adding,
“I am with you on this.”
